Group Direction

is an intimate group of 4-6 participants who journey together in listening to the Spirt of God in daily life. Our time together follows a simple structure. Training and process is discussed at the first meeting and no previous group experience is needed.  For more information about the group experience click here:  Group Direction Experience

The group meets about once a month (8 times) from September-May. The total cost is $160 per person.  Space is limited to 5 participants.  Alternatively, you may desire to form a group of those you know already and/or meet on a more frequent basis. Options can be discussed as desired.  To inquire about a group email: brooke@theshilohproject.com.

What spiritual direction is NOT:

Spiritual direction is not therapy, discipleship, or a visit with a guru.  In spiritual direction we do not diagnose or fix anyone’s problems, we do not prescribe a certain way of living, nor do we tell you what to do.  Spiritual direction is for those actively engaged on their own spiritual journey.

How would I benefit by meeting with a director?

There are many reasons you would enter into the blessing of this sacred relationship!  The direction experience helps us pay attention to God’s leadings in our lives, to communicate with The Holy and grow in intimacy with God.  It is grounded in the beliefs that God loves us, is constantly speaking to us and that we sometimes need one another to help us see and hear along the journey.

How do I find the right director for me?

Spiritual direction has something to do with finding the right “fit” for both you and the director.  Each director is different and typically you have an intro (or discernment) session at your first meeting to determine fit.  It is common to interview two or three directors to find who you feel most comfortable with. In addition, after your third session with the director you choose will check in with you to see if you still feel like it is a good fit.

Below are a few examples of questions to consider asking a director you are interviewing for the first time. Typically, a director will meet with you for the first time for free.

1.What enrichment, spiritual formation, and theological education do you have in spiritual direction?

2.What is your personal experience tending your own prayer, meditation and contemplative life?

3.What is your experience as a spiritual director?  How many years?  In what environments?

4.How do you continue your education and supervision for your spiritual direction ministry?

5.What ethical guidelines do you abide by, such as those published by Spiritual Directors International?

6.What type of engagement agreement will we establish to clarify roles and responsibilities in our spiritual direction relationship, such as samples provided to members of Spiritual Directors International?

Personal direction

is a one hour meeting with you, a director and the Holy Spirit.  The hour focuses on your life and relationship with the Holy. “Direction” can be a misleading term, as a director offers no answers but rather prayerful listening and reflective questions to help you discern God’s presence and leading in your life.  Direction generally happens about once a month and the cost is on a sliding scale of $35-50 per session.  To schedule  an introduction session with Brooke fill out the online interest form through The Contemplative Center of Silicon Valley by clicking the Contact Brooke link below or email brooke@theshilohproject.com
